Charming fisherman cottage with endless potential! Already been restored with the bulk work completed.
This fisherman Cottage is for the person who respects and values Heritage, and appreciate character.
The old Fisherman cottages in Velddrif tells quiet stories of a time when life moved to the rhythm of the tides. These cottages reflect the simple hardworking lifestyle of the fishing communities who built them. The houses were designed to withstand strong winds and salty air. Their small windows, low roofs and layout speaks of function rather than luxury.
In earlier days fishing was the heart of Velddrif’s economy. Families depended on the daily catch, and the fisherman cottages were places of both labor and togetherness. Nets were repaired in the yards, boats were moored nearby.
Today some of the fisherman cottages still stand, preserved as reminders of the town’s heritage. While modern developments have grown around them, they remain symbols of resilience, simplicity and the enduring spirit of the West Coast.
This charming cottage is situated on a 870 sqm erf in Waterkanstr. The most sought after street in Velddrif. Within walking distance of Bokkomlaan, where you can enjoy your morning coffee while birdwatching and seeing the boats bring in fresh harders to be hung out and dry as a bokkom.
As you can see from the photo’s, the house is very private, with high boundary walls. You are welcomed by a full-length veranda, typical of a traditional fisherman cottage. Imagine yourself sitting on the veranda every evening – the veranda has a very calm and peaceful ambience and overlooks the swimming pool.
The living area has already been modernized and now features an open plan kitchen and living space. The living area also has an extra door leading outside. If you leave that door and the front door open, a fantastic breeze flows right through the living area. The ‘old kitchen’ is the scullery/laundry with a door leading outside.
There are 2 bedrooms: one on the one side of the house with a separate bathroom. The other on the opposite side with its own en-suite bathroom.
The floors are finished in Cemcrete in an earthy tone that perfectly compliments the character of the home.
The thatched roof of the lapa has collapsed, but with minimal effort it can be restored. This could become a fantastic entertainment area, especially since it is situated next to the swimming pool. The pool itself is a very beautiful feature in the garden.
A big bonus is the dedicated workspace – a neat Wendy house. There is also a borehole.
At the back of the house ,facing North ,there is a separate Nutec cottage. Completely private from the main cottage. Offers: kitchenette , small lounge, 1 bathroom and veranda.
The garden is in a very good condition. The property also offers a double garage and a shade net carport.
All that remains for the new owner is to carry out upgrades and add their personal touch.
